In the region of Cajamarca in the North-West of Peru, the regional management of Agriculture initiated a program that shall benefit over 10,000 farmers in the region. The “Improving the Competitiveness of Andean Crops Supply Chains” is a program that aims at converting Cajamarca into one of the main production regions of the country. With technical assistance and training, a yield increase from 900kg/ha up to 1,400kg/ha will be reached. The management of the program has no doubt that there will be a decrease in demand as well as there won’t be farmers not wanting to produce quinoa for a market price of 13 Soles/kg ($4.70).
