France is still a starting market for chia seeds, but it is the first European country to produce chia. This is one of the findings of the market analysis on production and imports of chia seeds in Europe which was recently published by Michel Peperkamp of ICI Business.
Uganda is a new and fast growing supplier of chia seeds. Uganda’s chia export is mostly directed to Germany and the Netherlands. Production has also started in other African countries such as Kenya and Tanzania.
Germany is Europe’s main chia importer with around 580 tonnes/month on average, while the Netherlands takes the 2nd place, importing and distributing around 335 tonnes per month. >> Read more
